Founded in 1996, the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) is a dynamic and young university. Today, USI comprises four Faculties, with a student population of around 3,000, 60% of which made up of international students from more than 100 different countries. Its taught courses (in Italian and English) cover the whole gamut from Bachelor's to PhD degree programmes.

The Faculty of Communication Sciences is the only one in Switzerland and among the few in Europe to offer an all-round education in communication, with a fully interdisciplinary approach. The study curriculum covers the spectrum from the fundamentals of the discipline to cutting-edge specialization, with a view to turning out not simply communication generalists, but leading specialists in particular sectors of the field. A remarkable array of research is conducted by the faculty through its institutes and research laboratories, in areas pertaining to linguistics, education, media, health communication, psychology, information technologies and corporate communication.

eLab is a laboratory of the Faculty of Communication Sciences of USI, directed by prof. Lorenzo Cantoni. eLab intend to improve the quality of teaching at USI through the integration of the ICT (Information and Communication Technologies). Together with the, eLab developed URL (User Requirements with Lego), a methodology to elicit user requirements for online communication applications based on the Lego Serious Play method (see also the URL guide available at
